The Freedom Church logo, a bird in flight above the Freedom Church name, on navy

A church that knows who it is, and says it clearly.

The need

A church that knows who it is, and says it clearly.

Freedom Church is a church in Dayton, Ohio. They came to Vaughn for more than a new logo. They wanted to be clear about who they are and how they speak to their community, and they needed an identity that could grow with their mission.

A complete identity system, not just a logo.

What we did

A complete identity system, not just a logo.

At Vaughn, I created the full Freedom Church identity: a primary logo in stacked and horizontal versions, a standalone mark, a Dayton badge, and a navy, light blue and teal palette, carried through to real applications like the flags outside the church. Every piece works together, so the church shows up as one church wherever it appears.

The symbol is a bird in flight, its wings raised, drawn in a handful of curved strokes. It carries the name without spelling it out. Beside it, the wordmark sets Freedom Church in clean, open capitals. The mark is simple enough to work at any size, so the church can use it with the name or on its own.

The Freedom Church badge, the church building with two crosses and a rising sun over fields, ringed by Freedom Church and Dayton, Ohio, on light blue

Alongside the main logo, a round badge shows the church itself: the building, two crosses and the sun rising over green fields, with Freedom Church and Dayton, Ohio set around the edge. It gives the church a warmer, local piece of the identity that ties it to its neighborhood.

This is home.

How it helps

This is home.

Two navy Freedom Church flags against a blue sky, one reading this is home over a map pattern, the other reading Welcome with the bird mark in teal

On the flags outside the church, the identity does what it was made to do: it greets people. One reads Welcome, with the wings sweeping across it in teal. The other reads this is home over a street map pattern, with the bird small at the bottom. Since the rebrand, attendance has grown by an estimated 22%. In Senior Pastor Rick Compton’s words, what the church received was more than a visual identity: a system built to support its mission and growth.

“Vaughn didn't just redesign our brand. They helped us clarify who we are and how we communicate that to our community. Every decision felt intentional, and what we received was more than a visual identity. It was a system built to support our mission and growth.”
Rick Compton, Senior Pastor, Freedom Church
